I was able to give some new life to a dead Leica 50mm “Summar” f2.0 LTM (1930s) lens by hacking/adapting it to Canon EOS mount. To use this lens on a Canon DSLR I will still need to do some adjustments to the rear element. It is close. Works fine without adjustments and focuses to infinity on the EPIC X. All the smooth OOF and Leica glow you can handle and then some. This lens flares out of control… beautiful soft vintage looks.

I had some pristine uncoated lenses converted for use on my EPIC. I finally had a chance to test this one out …. an UNCOATED PREWAR XENON SCHNEIDER 50mm f2 (MINT). I am really happy with the look this lens renders so far. Uncoated flares, low contrast… SHARP yet creamy, Vintage style bokeh. Currently looking for a 35 to complete a small set. I have an 80mm on the way, I hope its in as good condition as this little 50mm… fingers crossed.

Images on FLICKR as well

Thinktank was kind enough to send me their CityWalker 30 messenger bag to test out. Full disclosure I am a big fan of their Retrospective line.  What I do miss from the Retro series (or at least the Retros I own) is the ability to stow a laptop, while keeping that “I’m not wearing a bag feeling” that the Retros have. While saying this, the CityWalker 30 is a full sized bag. Its made to carry a lot of gear if need be while staying light and wearable. This bag delivered in the department. Here’s a two camera set up I took out for a weekend trip.I would not usually carry this much gear with me but I wanted to test the comfort limits of this bag when fully loaded. The 30 performed well getting me to the location, where I lightened the load, by ditching the laptop, brick and readers before shooting.I like the concept of the removable camera insert. This expands the range of uses this bag fills.  The interior is still made of Velcro material so one can still fill it with dividers if need be. This helps when carrying a larger camera like the EPIC-X, or if you just want use the bag as a simple messenger. Nice double use. Might be nice to see a set of “half sized” removable inserts for more customization. The CityWalker 30 also has an extra pocket in the flap, unlike the RETRO series. This kinda reminds me of the flaps on most Domke bags. I like this addition. Makes a great place for one off, or two off filters, and its very accessible.
Another great bag from ThinkTank in my opinion, fits my shooting style perfectly.CityWalker 30 - Order from this site and receive a free gift at check out!Outside: 16.3” W x 11.4” H x 8.3” D (41.5x 29 x 21 cm).Inside: 13.4”W x 9.6” H x 6.7” D (34 x 24.5 x 7 cm).Laptop: 15” W x 11”H x 1.4” D (38 x 28 x 3.6 cm).Weight: 2.7-3.0 Lbs.
